Spend a little time at the chipping green to determine your strengths around the green.
Understand your "roll ratio" with various chipping clubs. Roll ratio is how far a ball flies then how far the ball rolls after it lands.
To start with, I suggest you pick a chip and determine the 1/2 way point to the hole. Put a quarter or tee at the 1/2 way point. Select a club and practice landing the ball as near to the 1/2 way point as possible. See where the ball ends up in relation to the hole.
As a starting point, a 9-iron is a good club to use to begin with. For many people, the 9-iron will be perfect for flying the ball 1/2 way and rolling 1/2 way. Club lofts can vary so don't be surprised if a wedge or 8 iron works better for you.
If you practice using a target point located 1/2 or 1/3 of the way to the hole, you will begin to get comfortable with your clubs and be more confident with your on-course execution of the short game.
Good luck and feel free to drop by the Golf Shop for additional tips for the short game.
