Course Conditions
The Horizon, Founders, & Desert courses will be seeded with Bent grass, and overseeded with Ryegrass on the tee boxes, fairways and green surrounds for a "summer like" playing surface during the winter months.
If you are visiting us during cooler months and are lucky enough to play our premier course, "The Desert 9", you should know the playing surface is a Hybrid-Bermuda grass especially developed for the Desert Southwest. This grass goes dormant when evening temperature drops below 60 degrees. Golfers unfamiliar with this type of grass may believe that due to the brown color the grass is dead. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Even when dormant, the grass on the Desert 9 maintains a playing surface of the highest quality, it just looks different. We do overseed the Desert 9's tee boxes, and areas surrounding the greens with Ryegrass, but not the fairways and rough. Overseeding would be detrimental to the playing surface during the warmer months.
