     Desert Closed - Monday, August 10th - Friday, August 28th
     Horizon Closed - Monday, August 31st - Thursday, September 17th

Black Mountain has just completed our 2.8 million dollar "makeover" helping to modernize this 50 year old facility.  This eco-friendly renovation included the removal of 54 acres of turf to assist in conserving water in this arid desert climate. 

The Horizon & Founders 9-hole courses are Bermuda grass in the summer, and overseeded with Ryegrass on the tee boxes, fairways and green surrounds for a lush green playing surface during the winter months.  

If you are visiting us during cooler months and are lucky enough to play our premier course, "The Desert 9", you should know the playing surface is a Hybrid-Bermuda grass especially developed for the Desert Southwest.  This grass goes dormant when evening temperature drop below 60 degrees.  Golfers unfamiliar with this type of grass may believe that due to the brown color the grass is dead.  Nothing could be farther from the truth.  Even when dormant, the grass on the Desert 9 maintains a playing surface of the highest quality, it just looks different.  We do overseed the Desert 9's tee boxes, and areas surrounding the greens with Ryegrass, but not the fairways and rough.  Overseeding would be detrimental to the playing surface during the warmer months.

All 27 holes have bent grass greens, which favor the cooler winter temperatures, creating a superior putting surface.
